Timeline The actual
show runs about 1 hour and 30 minutes. Adding in the time for serving an
optional appetizer course, salad, dinner, and dessert, awarding of prizes and
corporate activities built into the show, the evening runs 2 1/2 to 2 3/4
hours. More details on timeline.
Script The script is a
spoof of and a tribute to the Master of Suspense, relying on 50's and 60's prototypes of
Hitchcock characters -- from seedy low-lifes, to elegant criminals, to our
"innocent" Midwestern honeymooners. A comedy mystery, an audience
participation free-for-all, and an intricately plotted performance
piece. In recent years, it was performed to sold out houses in San Diego, Seattle, and
Minneapolis, each time drawing rave responses! See how many Hitchcock references you
can spot -- from The Birds, to North By Northwest, Psycho, and
The
Thirty-Nine Steps, and many, many more.
Setting The setting is
the lavish but intimate Hotel d' Auteur, in the quartier of Monte Carlo in the principality
of Monaco. Gaming tables abound (a wonderful opportunity to link this mystery with a
Monte Carlo night!) Still seated at one of the tables is the body of Harry Granger,
surrounded by a chalk outline. Police tape runs down the middle of the table.
The decor, appropriate period costumes, and
set pieces all emphasize the early 60's time period and an elegant casino
atmosphere. Lighting is a critical element creating mood and space. Nightclub
songs are performed during food service.
