Timeline For Most Murder Mystery and Interactive Comedy Events

Guests arrive an hour before curtain for bar / Cocktail Reception.
Cast members begin to appear in character, and mingle with guests. By 1/2 hour prior to curtain, all cast members are working the crowd, insuring that all members of the party know:
Where they are,  What year it is,  Who each character is,
What each character thinks of the other characters, and
Necessary information about the murder or situation.
Most importantly, the cast establish relationships with the guests, learning who wants to play and who wants to be left alone.

Prior to curtain, actors are signaled (by stage manager) the show is about to start. They insure guests are seated and move to opening positions.

The curtain rises.  Music and lighting alert guests that the show has begun.  In the case of Murder is in the Air© , Dash Hunter, the Detective, summarizes for the audience all the information they should have gleaned from pre-show interaction, and sets the tone of the show.  Something similar to this convention will happen in each of our shows, insuring anyone who didn't speak with all characters will still understand all the information outlined above.

During each act red herrings abound, characters are killed (and may come back as someone else), and eventually the clues that dis-cover the murderer are revealed. Acts I and II each last 10-15 minutes. Acts III and IV are typically combined as one act, to be performed after the main course is served, lasting 25-35 minutes, but can be separated if the number of courses to be served calls for it.

After each act is completed another course of dinner is served. During service, all surviving characters interact improvisationally with the audience. At the end of Act IV, in a murder mystery, the detective enlists the help of the audience in identifying the killer, and collects their "Accusation Sheets," identifying the killer.  In You May Already Be The $11 Million Dollar Winner© , the audience tracks the number of famous movie titles built into the show.

Act V, typically lasting 5-10 minutes following dessert, consists of a quick recap of each character's situation, and an engagement, or marriage, or the revelation of the murderer, who always gets his/her "just desserts."

Following Act V, correct answers are put in a container, and several high-quality fun prizes are awarded via raffle. Any additional ceremonies, "Employee of the Year" recognition, proposals, whatever, may happen at this time -- or they can be worked in to the show at the request of the person booking the show.
